William Lampert

A pioneer in Stout athletics. Starred in football, basketball and track in 1916-17 when Stout had only a two-year program. He earned two letters in all three sports and captained teams in each sport. Taught industrial arts in Indianapolis from 1921 until his retirement in 1959. Now resides in La Mesa, Calif. Came to Stout from Wausau.

 

Max Sparger

Max SpargerBest known for coaching the Blue Devils to the conference football championship in 1965 although that stands as only one of his accomplishments at Stout. In his years at Stout, he served in many positions, including head football, wrestling, track and golf coaches. Also served as Athletic Director for two years before leaving to become Commissioner of Athletics for the nine-team Wisconsin State University Conference. Sparger is a native of Wichita Falls, Texas.

 

Patrick Murphy

Patrick MurphyA 1941 graduate, he earned four letters in basketball and football and played baseball for four seasons although no awards were given at that time. Named all-conference fullback three times. Captained football squad 1939. Taught and coached briefly before serving with U.S. Navy. A retired director of regional training for the postal service, he now lives in Wellesley Hills, Mass.

 

Vaughn Stai

Vaughn StaiThis Menomonie native twice won all-conference honors in football and basketball, a rare feat. Was the most valuable player two successive years in basketball. Captained the 1949-50 basketball squad. Taught industrial arts and coached basketball and football for five years before joining the 3M Co. in St. Paul. Now serves as a packaging engineer supervisor.
