Faculty Development - Year 3
During year 3 we continued to focused on a variety of faculty development experiences through Summer Institutes, workshops and other professional devlopment activities. These wactivities are developed in support of the Title III goals each year and open to all faculty. The institutes included:
- Student -Centered Learning/Teaching Institute
The Audience: All faculty and instructional staff (limited to 20 participants)Facilitator: Dan Riordan
Participants in this workshop learned to:
- Investigate student engagement strategies
- Develop and integrate active learning strategies into the classroom
- Develop assessment strategies to evaluate student engagement learning experiences
- Writing to Learn Institute: “Responding to and Assessing Student Writing”
The Audience: All faculty and instructional staff who were unable to attend last year’s Summer Writing Institute (limited to 20 participants) - Learned various approaches to providing formative and summative response/feedback to student writing
- Learned a variety of strategies for assessing/grading student writing
- Developed effective strategies for managing the paper load while grading

Assessment Institute: e-Portfolio and Assessing Student Learning
Attendees included 8 program teams (Program Director and core instructors).Facilitators: Dr. Julie Watts, Dr. Janice Coker
Participants in this workshop:
- Reviewed Program objectives and identify e-portfolio assessment components
- Determined key elements/components for inclusion in student learning assessment e-portfolios
- Created an Action plan for implementation of e-portfolio for students in major
- Identified benchmarks for measurement of program e-portfolio success

- New Instructor Workshop
As a group, new instructors participated in activities related to course development and technological integration.
Workshop Goals:
- Participants understanding of student learning.
- Identifing characteristics of active learning and student engagement.
- Preparing for teaching in the digital learning environment.
These sessions were open to the entire campus, but focused as follow-up to the Summer Institutes. The sessions provided opportunities for instructors to share and document their practices.

Title III funded conference registration and travel fees for 38 to attend conferences of their choice, as they relate to Title III goals. Some of the conferences and workshops attended included:

- Computers and Writing 2007
- The 2007 OPID Spring Conference
