Research Objectives

This research project will attain the following objectives:

•  Review the evolution to Self-directed Work Team from a historical perspective. 

• Identify "best practices" in implementing Self-directed Work Teams. 

• Identify characteristics of Self-directed Work Teams. 

• Distinguish the role of management during a Self-directed Work Team implementation. 

• Determine typical training programs utilized to support a Self-directed Work Team implementation. 

•  Establish tools to be utilized in a Self-directed Work Team implementation.   Including but not limited to, planning worksheets, work plans, training programs, and maintenance documentation. 

• Present the Self-directed Work Team Implementation plan for Marconi Communications, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

• Provide the resources created and utilized during the pilot program for the Team Leaders and Natural Work Teams.
