UW-LA CROSSE CLAIMS FIFTH STRAIGHT INDOOR TITLE

MENOMONIE - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse claimed its fifth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship following completion of the two-day conference meet at UW-Stout's Sports & Fitness Center on March 6.

UW-La Crosse finished with 159.50 team points, to outdistance UW-Oshkosh, which placed second with 145 points for the closest margin of victory in conference history. UW-Stevens Point finished third (121), followed by UW-Eau Claire (78.50), UW-River Falls (55), UW-Stout (48), UW-Whitewater (46), UW-Platteville (43) and UW-Superior (5).

UW-La Crosse, which has won six conference titles in the last eight seasons, claimed three individual championships and two relay titles en route to the championship. Angela Klatt won the 55-meter dash and 200-meter dash events for the second straight season with times of 7.31 and 25.49, respectively. She becomes the first individual in conference history to win four consecutive 200-meter dash titles.

UW-La Crosse's Julia Rudd won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:24.07.

The Eagles won the 4 x 200-meter relay and 4 x 400-meter relay titles with times of 1:45.85 and 4:01.11, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh captured five individual titles and one relay crown during the two-day competition. Elizabeth Woodworth won the 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run crowns for the second straight season with times of 2:12.89 and 4:39.82, respectively. She becomes the first individual in league history to win four straight 800-meter run titles. Woodworth was voted the Track Performer of the Meet for the second consecutive year for her efforts.

UW-Oshkosh's Julie Hoch secured the pentathlon crown for the second straight year with 3,231 points and was voted the Field Performer of the Meet for her efforts. Kelly Rehn claimed the pole vault with a height of 12-0, while Robyn Jarocki had a conference-record toss of 60-3 3/4 in winning the 20-pound weight throw.

The Titans won the distance medley relay with a conference record time of 11:51.50.

UW-Eau Claire's Jennifer Stafslien set a conference record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.28 and also won the long jump with a leap of 17-8 3/4.

UW-River Falls' Jill Crandall claimed the high jump with a height of 5-5 1/4, while her teammate, Stephanie Dura captured the shot put with a toss of 44-11 1/2.

UW-Platteville's Jackie Mulrooney won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:32.87.

UW-Stout's Laura Verdegan claimed the triple jump for the second straight season with a leap of 39-3.

UW-Whitewater's Katelyn Friedel secured the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.75.

UW-La Crosse head coach Pat Healy was voted the Coach of the Year for the fifth straight season.

RIVER FALLS WINS TWO TITLES IN FIRST NIGHT OF CHAMPIONSHIPS

MENOMONIE - UW-River Falls captured two first place finishes in the first day of the WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, Friday, March 5 at UW-Stout's Sports & Fitness Center.

Jill Crandall topped out in the high jump with a top distance of 5-feet, 5.25-inches. Four competitors went out at 5-3.25.

The Falcons' Stephanie Dura benefited from misfortune by UW-Oshkosh's Robyn Jarocki, the defending shot put champion. Jarocki scratched on all three of her tosses. Duran, meanwhile, edged out UW-Stout's Ann Schachtner. Dura launched a toss of 44-feet, 11.50-inches to Schachtner's throw of 44-9.50.

UW-Platteville's Jackie Mulrooney cruised to first in the 5000-meter run in a time of 17-minutes, 32.87-seconds. Mulrooney topped UW-La Crosse's Julie Rudd, who finished at 17:45.29. Both times were NCAA provisional qualifying times.

Jennifer Stafslien of UW-Eau Claire edged out Stout's Laura Verdegan. Stafslien jumped 17-8.75, while Verdegan jumped 17-6.25. Stafslien recorded the top time in the 55-meter hurdles preliminary (8.35).

Angela Klatt of La Crosse won both the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash (7.30) and the 200 (25.61). Klatt is the three-time defending champion in both events.

Oshkosh's Liz Woodworth, the three-time defending champion in the 800-meter run, finished second to Jenna Mitchler of UW-Stevens Point in the preliminaries.
