Technology infusion into curriculum

According to a recent survey conducted by the National Survey of Student Engagement, nearly 80 percent of UW-Stout students report that their instructors integrate technology into the curriculum. Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum and is used as a teaching tool. Many instructors actively collaborate across disciplinary boundaries in order to create new academic programs and meet the ever-changing economy.

Student studying on his laptop computer. UW-Stout continues to remain true to its founding principle of hands-on, applied learning since becoming a digital campus. In fall 2002, all entering freshmen were required to lease a laptop computer. Currently, approximately 7,000 students have laptop computers. Follow-up studies reveal that student performance has improved. Overall, laptop students have shown a greater percentage in passing courses than previous non-laptop students. Also, according to the National Survey of Student Engagement in 2004 and 2005, freshmen and seniors reported higher ratings than peer and national comparisons on “using computing and information technology.”

The university has implemented a pilot program to allow students to keep their laptops at graduation.
