Discussion Evaluation Criteria
Evaluations are usually posted the week following the module. Check the D2L Gradebook (click Grades in the Navigation bar). Be sure to read the comments left by the instructor. Feel free to email your instructor if you have questions.
Note: Your personal response to a module discussion prompt is your Primary Post.
Exemplary
- Primary Postings
Primary discussion postings address the prompts and clearly indicate understanding of course readings. Postings include appropriate quotations and links to online resources. Postings are appropriately timed and meet or exceed the minimum number required. Posts are straight to the point, clearly worded, and respond constructively to others' ideas.
- Replies
Responses are posted to postings/questions of other participants in a timely manner and enhance the class discussion.
Responses use a variety of response techniques. The number of responses meet or exceed the criteria detailed in the rubric.
Proficient
- Primary Postings
Discussion postings are timely, relevant and address all elements of the prompt. Quotations from the reading suppport the main point. Meets the minimum number of postings per week.
- Replies
Responses include questions that move beyond yes or no answers, and elicit discussion with other participants.
Response is timely for the most part. Uses appropriate number of response techniques.
Adequate
- Primary Postings
Posting may address one element of a prompt, but fail to completely deal with the topic. Posting does is not distributed through the week.
- Replies
Uses limited response techniques. May be slow to respond. Fails to respond Discussion postings include questions that do not move beyond yes or no answers, and fail to elicit responses from other participants.
Substandard
- Primary Postings
Posting misses elements of the prompt. Discussion postings are merely perfunctory. For example, many of the postings are "I think so too" or "I disagree" without elaboration of thinking or appropriate quotations. Or there is excessive quoting from the readings without any significant supporting evidence of the topic.
- Replies
Fails to use specific response techniques. Discussion postings include unclear questions that do not move beyond yes or no answers and/or fail to respond to classmates' postings. Responses fall short of minimum and occur near the end of the module.
Missing
- Primary Postings
Response to the prompt is missing.
- Replies
No replies to other students
