How to Write an Artist Statement

It is advised that you go to the art library read art magazines and are books to get an idea about how artists write about their work.  You will find that writing styles vary, however, some characteristics remain constant.

1. Describe the subject matter and why it is important to you.

2. Describe the techniques and media used.  Select 1 or 2 works as exmplars to discuss in more detail.

3. Describe what you are communicating through your work.

4. Describe goals for your work.
