Former Chancellor Robert S. Swanson, whose name is etched in the hearts of many people affiliated with UW-Stout, now has his name etched in metal.

The UW System Board of Regents has named the UW-Stout Library Learning Center after Swanson, complete with a brass plaque announcing the facility’s new name as the Robert S. Swanson Learning Center. A ceremony honoring Swanson was Nov. 6.

“The Learning Center is more han a symbol of the university; it is the very soul of the university. It is an honor to recognize Bob Swanson in this manner,” Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen said.

Swanson served as chancellor from 1972 to 1988, and the Library Learning Center opened its doors to the public in early 1982. Today, the center has holdings of more than a million items, including audiovisual resources, journals, books and microformats.
