What is human subjects research? (cont'd)
Who should take human subjects training?
UW-Stout requires that all individuals who contribute to the design of projects that involves human subjects or who work with human subjects complete this human subjects tutorial. This includes:
- All personnel responsible for recruiting subjects, obtaining informed consent, conducting study procedures, and performing data analysis
- All investigators listed on a grant proposal
- All students conducting research involving human subjects
- Any new investigators or other research staff (including students) added during the course of a project
- All faculty and staff conducting research involving human subjects
Many in the university community will have taken human subjects training at other institutions. Because UW-Stout may have provisions unique to this campus, even investigators with prior training must complete this human subjects tutorial and have the certification of completion on file in the IRB Administrator’s Office (Research Services).
