May 7, 2007

The ROTC program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout will commission its first officers at 4:30 p.m., May 12, in the Maplewood and Oakwood rooms of the Memorial Student Center. Three students will earn their commissions.

Ben Anderson, of Spencer, will be commissioned as a Corps of Engineers officer in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Lucas Sivertson, of Elk Mound, will be commissioned as an aviation officer in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Joseph Waggoner, of Menomonie, will be commissioned as a Signal Corps Officer in the Wisconsin National Guard.

The commissioning ceremony will begin with a color guard. UW-Stout student Laura Drew will sing the national anthem. Hugh Williamson, program director for the business administration program at UW-Stout, will be the guest speaker. The officers will take their oath of office, and then a family member will pin the rank on their uniform. Finally, the officers will receive their first salute from an enlisted officer.

Anderson, Sivertson and Waggoner are the first graduates of the ROTC program, which began at UW-Stout in 2005.
