University of Wisconsin-Stout Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen was honored Oct. 16 by Illinois State University's History Department.
Sorensen received a master’s degree from the History Department in 1967. He was cited during the university’s Homecoming weekend for his “excellence as a student and ambassador” for the department and university.
“I was honored to receive this recognition,” Sorensen said. “It was great to be back on campus, where I have many fond memories.”
Sorensen became UW-Stout’s sixth leader in 1988. A native of Moline, Ill., Sorensen received a baccalaureate degree in history and political science from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. After receiving his degree from Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., he went to Michigan State University, where he received a Ph.D. degree in American history. Sorensen also has attended the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management.
