University of Wisconsin - Stout

Sept. 22, 2009

David Barnard, professor and dean emeritus of the University of Wisconsin-Stout, will deliver a reminiscence talk Wednesday, Sept. 30, from noon to 1 p.m., in the Maple and Oakwood rooms of the Memorial Student Center.

Barnard, who retired from the university in 1987, will share stories from his 41 years of service to the campus and community. He started his career in 1946, teaching printing in the graphic arts department of The Stout Institute. Barnard continued his work by developing photography instruction and services, which grew into the Audio-Visual Center and included the media technology masters program. In addition, Barnard developed an integrated media service involving academic computing, instructional technology services, the Library Learning Center and the Teleproduction Center. He and his wife Kathleen currently live in Middleton.

The Reminiscence Speaker Series, sponsored by the Stout Historical Association of the Dunn County Historical Society, features talks that illuminate the “spirit of Stout.” The original series was held in advance of the university's centennial in 1991 and made a significant contribution to Stout’s oral history. The institution has seen considerable change in the years since and the association reinstated the series to continue documenting the university’s unique culture and history.

The event is free and open to the university and Menomonie community. Bring a lunch for an interesting hour highlighting the university’s rich history.
