Cadet Richard Lofthouse, of Fennimore, was chosen as the No. 1 cadet in the Army ROTC Northwoods Battalion. The Northwoods Battalion includes the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, UW-River Falls, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout.
As his battalion’s No. 1 cadet, Lofthouse will join the No. 1 cadets from each of the 273 Army ROTC programs in the nation at the George C. Marshall Leadership Seminar at the Virginia Military Institute April 15-18. Speakers at the conference include Sen. James Webb of Virginia; Pete Geren, Secretary of the Army; Gen. George Casey, Army Chief of Staff; and Gen. William Wallace, Commander of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.
Lofthouse, a senior studying construction management, will graduate from UW-Stout May 10, along with three other ROTC classmates. On graduation day, Lofthouse and his classmates will be commissioned as officers in a ceremony at the Mabel Tainter Theater in Menomonie.
