The Blue Devils' Ben Kuepers (Jr, Dickeyville) gave Stout a 29-24 lead to open the second stanza before the Blugolds took off. A 3-pointer by Stout's Jeremy Leibfried (Jr, Dickeyville) cut the gap to 56-52 with 6:21 to play, but Eau Claire scored the next nine points for a 65-52 lead with four minutes remaining. Pat Von Feldt (So, Stevens Point) hit a 3-pointer with 25 second remaining for Stout's only points in the final three minutes.

POOR SHOOTING PERCENTAGE DOOMS BLUE DEVIL WOMEN EARLY

MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout women's basketball team more than doubled their shooting percentage in the second half. The trouble was, the Blue Devils shot only 14 percent in the first half and went on to fall, 105-61, to UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Dec. 12 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blugolds jumped out to a 48-24 halftime lead and went on to extend the lead to the final 44 point spread.

Stout (1-6, 1-2) could get nothing going in the game after pulling to within 7-6 at the 16:20 mark of the first half. Indicative of the game was when Eau Claire's Kelly Felmlee came off the bench to make two consecutive 3-pointers within 15 seconds of each other.

Stout did manage to get two scorers in double digits, with Andrea Bresette (Jr, Ashland) coming off the bench to lead the way with 13 points. Shannon Berg (Sr, Ellsworth) added 12 points.

BLUE DEVILS HAVE OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION IN SECOND, THIRD PERIOD

MENOMONIE - Like no game they have played so far this year, the UW-Stout hockey team exploded offensively with four goals in each of the second and third periods to take an 8-3 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) over UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

The win moves the Blue Devils (4-10-1, 1-4-1) into a tie with Blugolds (5-7-1, 1-4-1) in the NCHA, with both teams sporting three points. Stout's highest offensive output of the season had been in a 9-7 loss to Stevens Point in early November.

Graham Lomen (Sr, Apple Valley, Minn) and Mark Corbett (Sr, New Hope, Minn) each contributed to the explosion by scoring two goals, one in each period for Lomen and two for Corbett in the third period.

Stout came into the second period trailing, 2-0, on two Jake Mersberger goals, but it would be all Stout from then out.

Freshman Vince Speziale (Marinette) set the fuse for Stout when he scored his first collegiate goal two minutes into the second period. Shane Maher (So, Forest Lake, Minn) knotted the score two minutes later, scoring unassisted on a power play.

Stout took the lead for good 11 minutes into the period when Kevin Aube (So, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich) scored unassisted. Lomen cleaned up in the period when he scored with six minutes remaining.

The Blugolds' Nick Tietzjen gave Eau Claire fans something to cheer about midway through the final period when he scored, but Corbett extinguished any Eau Claire comeback with his first goal, assisted by Josh Marklevitz (So, Red Wing, Minn) and Lomen with six minutes remaining.

Lomen opened the powderkeg two minutes later and poured gas on the fire with an unassisted goal. Corbett scored with two minutes remaining and Joe Berry (Fr, Apple Valley, Minn) cleaned up with his first collegiate goal with 30 seconds left in the contest.

Stout outshot Eau Claire, 42-36, as Blue Devil goalie Ben Plester (Fr, Chemainus, BC) recorded 33 saves. Eau Claire goalie Jon Walker had 34 saves.

Stout is off until Jan. 8-9 when they travel to Bemidji State.

The Blugolds' Adam Sklader got things going midway through the first period, but Stout's Kevin Aube (So, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich) scored four minutes later on an assist by Tom Schaffner (Sr, Janesville).

Stout (3-10-1, 0-4-1) took the lead with four minutes remaining in the period when Graham Lomen (Sr, Apple Valley, Minn) put the puck past Eau Claire (5-6-1, 1-4-1) goalie Jon Walker on a power play. Lomen was assisted by Luke Murray (Jr, Bloomington, Minn) and RJ Schreifer (Jr, Cottage Grove, Minn).

After a scoreless second period and a wild, penalty ridden third period, Eau Claire's Jamie Minor got the tying goal at the 18:30 mark, getting assists from Ryan Thomas and Jake Mersberger.
