MENOMONIE (April 27, 2006) - UW-Stout will host the nine-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournament at Wakanda Park, Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6.

Games are scheduled to get underway each day at 9 a.m. and will be held on Diamonds 1 and 6. The final game of the first day is scheduled for 4 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Diamond 1, May 6.

Tickets will be available at the gate. Single day passes are $6 for adults, $3 for student and seniors. Two day passes are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Concessions will also be available.

Host Stout is the defending tournament champion. The tournament winner earns the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

POINTERS TAKE TWO FROM STOUT

STEVENS POINT (April 29, 2006) - UW-Stevens Point swept past UW-Stout, 5-0, 6-2, in Stout's final WIAC regular season game, Saturday.

The Pointers scored four runs in the second inning of the opener, then added another run in the fifth, while keeping Stout from crossing the plate.

Stout (8-26, 3-13) was held to five hits and got two hits each from Beth Lloyd (So, Fond du Lac) and Nelly Peterson (Fr, Cumberland). Amanda McKellips (Fr, Mosinee) got Stout's other hit. Stout batters struck out nine times.

In the second game, Savanah Oeltjen (So, Spring Valley, Minn) jumped out of a hitting funk to crank a two-out RBI triple to give Stout a 1-0 lead in the second period.

But again, the Pointers (23-14-1, 5-9) jumped on Stout pitchers for four runs, this time in the third inning. Stout's Jessica Glasgow (Fr, St. Paul, Minn) hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to cut the score in half, 4-2. Stevens Point tacked on two runs in the fifth for the final score.

Peterson and Oeltjen each were 2-for-3 in the contest.

ST. SCHOLASTICA SWEEPS PAST BLUE DEVILS

DULUTH, Minn (April 27, 2006) - Jackie Juan (So, La Crosse) got UW-Stout's only hits of the day, a single hit in each game as the Blue Devils fell to St. Scholastica, 4-1, 10-0.

BLUE DEVILS TAKE TWO GAMES OVER PLATTEVILLE

MENOMONIE (April 29, 2006) - UW-Stout did what they had to do to stay in the hunt for a conference playoff berth - take two games from UW-Platteville Saturday.

Seth Maier (Jr, Park Falls) led the way for the Blue Devils with a home run and three RBI in each game as Stout swept the day, winning 6-4 in the opener, then needing only seven innings for a 14-3 second game win.

Nick Klaren (Fr, North St. Paul, Minn) put the Blue Devils (12-18, 9-9) on the board first in the opener, smacking out a two-run double in the first inning. Stout added three more runs in the second, two on Maier's round tripper to left center. Luke Schultz (Jr, Menomonie) singled in a run earlier in the inning.

Platteville (15-18, 8-13) broke up Dan Olson's (Jr, Eau Claire) shutout attempt in the fourth inning when designated hitter Brandon Ihm sliced an RBI single to right field. Stout matched that run in the sixth on a run scoring double by Maier.

Platteville crept closer on a Ross Bennett lead off home run in the seventh and a two runs in the eighth to pull to within 6-4. Ben Sivertson (So, Elk Mound) came on for Olson to pick up his second save of the season, throwing hitless ball. Olson allowed four runs, but only two earned, walked three and struck out nine.

Stout wasted little time in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Klaren and Tanner Kattre (Fr, Abbotsford) each drove in two runs.

Kattre plated Klaren in the third inning after Klaren crushed a lead-off triple to deep centerfield. Maier gave Stout an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning with a three-run home run to center.

The Pioneers got to starter Scott Decker (Jr, Eau Claire) with two runs in the fifth inning, stopping Decker's scoreless streak at 20-plus innings. Stout got both runs back in the bottom of the inning on RBI's by Bryan Vilstrup (So, Frederic) and Eric Paul (So, Wisconsin Rapids) to give Stout a 10-2 lead.

The Pioneers stayed alive with a single run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Scott Dybevik.

Stout scored one run on an error in the sixth inning and added RBI singles by Matt Krause (So, Bonduel), Vilstrup and Tim Schneider (So, West Salem).

Schneider, Klaren, Kattre, Krause, Vilstrup and Paul all went 2-for-4 for Stout. Kattre and Maier each finished with three RBI and Vilstrup and Klaren, two.

Decker went the distance in the seven inning contest, allowing three earned runs, walking seven and striking out seven.

BLUE DEVILS OUTLAST AUGSBURG, 18-12

MENOMONIE (April 26, 2006) - Augsburg College outhit UW-Stout, but the Blue Devils pieced more runs together and took an 18-12 non-conference win over the Auggies, Wednesday at Nelson Field.

The scheduled nine-inning game looked like it was going to be a 10-run rule contest after Stout (10-18) knocked in seven runs in the second inning, highlighted by Tim Schneider's (So, West Salem) three run home run. Bryan Vilstrup (So, Frederic) drove in two runs with a double as Stout sent 12 to the plate.

The Auggies (16-15-1) got to Blue Devil starter Rob Heller (Jr, Coon Valley) for six runs in the fourth, as they sent 12 batters to the plate. Troy Deden drove in two runs for Augsburg with a single.

Erik Johnson (So, La Crosse) hit his first of two home runs in the bottom of the fourth as the leadoff hitter and Vilstrup gave Stout a 9-6 lead, driving in a run.

The Auggies took the lead in the top of the fifth, getting four runs, one earned, off Brock Stimson (So, Lakeville, Minn). Stout committed three errors in the inning, helping to set the table for the Auggies. Andy Nelson, Eric Dunivent, Dusty Hinz and Darren Ginther each drove in a run.

But Stimson would benefit from Stout's bottom half of the inning to get the win as the Blue Devils exploded for six runs for a 15-10 lead. Johnson hit his second home run in as many at-bats, this time a two-run shot, and Matt Krause (So, Bonduel) crushed a three-run home run. Luke Schultz (Jr, Menomonie) doubled in a run.

Stout added two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth as Johnson walked with the bases loaded and Tanner Kattre (Fr, Abbotsford) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Auggies' Ginther rapped a two run home run in the seventh. Schneider scored Krause in the seventh with a sacrifice fly for the final score.

Ginther was 5-for-5 for Augsburg with four RBI. Mark Bauer was 3-for-5 and Deden was 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Krause and Andy Lorenzen (Fr, Menomonie) were each 3-for-4. Both scored three runs and Krause knocked in three runs. Johnson was 2-for-3 with four RBI and Vilstrup was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Schneider was 1-for-2 with four RBI. Kattre was 1-for-2 with two RBI.
