It must have been a “God wink” when Warren and I caught each other's eye across a crowded Harvey Hall Auditorium in September 1946. We were enrolling at the Stout Institute as freshmen. This incident led to our first date at Homecoming time and the “forever after” is still strong and fulfilling 60 years later. Warren says the relationship was definitely enhanced by the butterscotch pie Karen baked in the foods lab and shared behind the newspaper rack at the Mabel Tainter Memorial Library. The Blue Devil memories are endless and wonderful. Our children, Kristen and Peter are also Stout grads.

Our first meeting was at the Stout bulletin board…summer of '47. Margaret was to leave the next day after completing a 3 week summer school class. I mumbled, “a dance tonight?” Margaret looked at me as I responded with, “interested?” Hmmm, “sure.” We celebrated our 56th anniversary in 2005.

We were both transfer students, just after the war in 1946-47. I (Helen) had so many classes to take because I had transferred from MSTC and Steven’s Point. I had a lot of required classes to make up, so I had to break into the cafeteria line and it was always in front of Russ. The next time I did it, he started asking me for a date and the rest is history. We have been married 53 years happily.

Karl and I met in 1950 at Our Savior Lutheran Church at Lutheran Students Association (LSA). We were playing "Winkum". Karl kept winking at me and took me back to the dorm that evening. It was love from the start!

Rowena Christen and I met on a church hay ride in 1948. I could not remember her name, but I knew she was at Tainter Hall. I called her Tainter Hall and asked for the young lady that played the clarinet in band. Luck was in my favor and I spoke to Rowena. What a gamble that was as I never knew the number of clarinet players available. We dated while in college and were married in June of 1953. We have had a great marriage. One of the great happenings at Stout was the establishment of good friends. Friends are the best collectibles.

We met while decorating the old gymnasium for an all school dance in February of 1947. Our first date was a high school play production at the Mabel Tainter Theater a week later....it worked! 65 years later and still in love...

We met the day after Labor Day 1950 at the “tour of the town.” Neither of us were impressed with each other! Both of us were very involved in Wesley Fellowship with a large number of students (we’re still in close contact with a number of them). In our sophomore year, one of our friends wanted to go with the girl Bob was going with at the time. The switch was made, and the friendship became very serious from there. Neither of us dated anyone else after then. We became engaged during the Symphonic Singers tour in Chicago in 1953 and married August 1954. The day was also the day one of our classmates was married.

We met in an Educational Psychology class in 1954. We started dating in December of 1954. We became engaged in December of 1955 and were married in December of 1956. Our first son was born in December of 1957. Then we gave December a rest and had the second son in September of 1963. We have celebrated 51 years of wedded bliss.

Our first date was at Sadie Hawkins 1957. We had known each other about 2+ years but did not date. Bob had dated one of Joann's roommates and was recommended for the Sadie Hawkins date. We were married in August 1959.

I met Bill as a freshman. We were introduced by a mutual friend. Both of us were in symphonic singers so get to know each other on our trip to Florida and the next year on our trip to IC and around WI. He was a member of Phi Sig and I was a Alpha Phi. He gave me his pin my junior year. We were married in 1959 for 46 years.
Bill passed away this past November 6, 2005. I have such fond memories of Stout and our “devil love” story.
